Academic Mentoring

Designed Specifically To
Maximize Your Student's Potential

Mentoring Philosophy

Headfirst believes the athletic concepts of organization, leadership, teamwork, preparation and maximized effort easily translate to the classroom. Every Headfirst Mentor recalls the challenges faced when trying to excel in both academics and extracurricular activities. Armed with this knowledge and experience, we will help your child balance the twin rigors this coalescence entails.

The Program

Headfirst Mentoring expands upon traditional tutoring services. Our Mentors communicate with children on an unparalleled level, providing them with the underlying skills necessary to succeed academically. While specific academic needs will vary for each student, the Headfirst Mentoring philosophy and the basic goals of the Mentor will remain the same.

  • Arrive on-time at each meeting energized and excited to work
  • Build a relationship with the student based on shared interests and goals
  • Encourage self-motivation and time management
  • Develop an organizational strategy for learning that best suits the student
  • Instill confidence in the student while setting realistic academic goals
  • Insist on the necessity of hard work and preparation
  • Communicate with the student on a level which is familiar to him or her
  • Be a role model, friend, and “academic teammate” to the student
How Do I Get Started With The Mentoring Program?

The process begins with your phone call or email to the Headfirst Mentoring Assignment Committee. An introductory telephone interview will be scheduled with one of our Mentoring Directors to assess the strengths and weaknesses of your student. This committee ensures your son or daughter is placed with a Student Mentor who complements your child's academic needs.

Where Do The Mentoring Sessions Take Place?

Headfirst Mentoring will arrange meeting locations based on each family's individual preference. Public libraries and other quiet locations are ideal; however, we will also be happy to meet students in their own home.
