Beauvoir, The National Cathedral Elementary School, is on the grounds of the Washington Cathedral. The Cathedral is located at the intersection of Massachusetts and Wisconsin Avenues in the Upper Northwest section of Washington, D.C.
In an effort to be a good neighbor, please attempt to find a legal parking space on the Cathedral Close before searching in the neighborhood that surrounds Beauvoir and the Cathedral. In November of 2006, a brand new parking garage will open off Wisconsin Avenue. Our visitors will be welcome to park inside!
FROM DOWNTOWN WASHINGTON: Take Massachusetts Avenue north and follow to Wisconsin Avenue. Turn right onto Wisconsin Avenue. Turn right onto Woodley Road. Turn right onto 35th Street (this is actually Beauvoir's driveway). Beauvoir is at the TOP of the driveway. (You will drive pass the NCS athletic facility at the bottom of the driveway on your left.)
FROM MARYLAND AND THE NORTH: Take I-95 to I-495 West, the Capital Beltway. Exit south on Old Georgetown Road. Follow Old Georgetown Road to where it intersects with Wisconsin Avenue. Turn right onto Wisconsin Avenue. Follow Wisconsin Avenue approximately 3 1/2 miles. Turn left onto Woodley Road. Turn right onto 35th Street (this is actually Beauvoir's driveway). Beauvoir is at the TOP of the driveway. (You will drive pass the NCS athletic facility at the bottom of the driveway on your left.)
FROM VIRGINIA AND THE SOUTH: Take I-495 over the American Legion Bridge into Maryland and take the Wisconsin Avenue/Bethesda exit. Once on Wisconsin Avenue, follow directions from Maryland and the North above...OR Take the Memorial Bridge to the Lincoln Memorial, bearing right onto Rock Creek Parkway. Follow the Parkway to the Massachusetts Avenue exit, turning left onto Massachusetts Avenue. Then, follow directions from Downtown Washington above.
FROM VIRGINIA AND THE WEST: Take I-66 East to I-495 West, the Capital Beltway. Follow directions From Virginia and the South over the American Legion Bridge above.

with the carpool process and direct you to the correct places.
If the camp experiences inclement weather at pick up or drop off, please use

and clearly visible, who will provide you with any changes to the system.

To safely transport your child to our camps we ask that you follow one of
these routes
Headfirst Summer Camp Carpool
- Parents will enter campus via the main school entrance on River Road
• (Directly
across from Congressional Country Club entrance)
- Parents will follow the instruction of Headfirst Staff members to the first
circle at the top of the hill where the drop-off & pick-up area is located.
- Parents will be greeted by Headfirst Staff members (not parents) will help
their child exit the car and be checked-in during morning drop-off and will
then help the children return to their cars during afternoon pick-up [Please
do not allow your child to exit the car until a Headfirst Staff member opens
the door]
- Please have your children ready to exit the car with their lunch and equipment
in hand.
- If you would rather park and walk your child up to the check in area, please
follow the Headfirst Staff’s instruction to park in the first parking
lot (before proceeding up the hill to the check-in circle)
• We ask that ALL
parents utilize our carpool system for afternoon pick-up.
- After drop-off and pick-up parents will proceed around the circle and back
out of the Norwood Campus the same way that they entered—exiting onto
River Road.
- Please do not use or be on your cell phone during this process as it is
very unsafe for the carpool procedure

Stay on River past Beltway exits, Norwood is 1 mile up on right, directly

From Potomac, MD: Take River Road towards DC. Cross Bradley Blvd. And Norwood is on your left hand side, directly across River Road from Congressional Country Club.
From I-270: Take 270 South towards DC and merge onto Beltway towards Richmond/Northern Virginia. Take River Road exit off Beltway and follow towards Potomac. Norwood is 1 mile up on right, directly across River Road from Congressional Country Club.
From McLean/Great Falls, VA: Take Beltway towards I-270/Frederick/Bethesda and exit River Road and follow towards Potomac. Norwood is 1 mile up on right, directly across River Road from Congressional Country Club.

Headfirst Camp Location @ St Albans School

The Massachusetts Avenue School Entrance***
St. Albans School is located right next to the National Cathedral and is on
the grounds of The National Cathedral. The school is nestled in between three
major roads: Wisconsin Ave, Massachusetts Ave, & Reno Road (34th St). The
school is also bordered by Garfield Street to the south. St. Albans School
asks that when you are dropping off or picking up your camper at summer camp,
you always do so on the Cathedral grounds.
Never drop off or pick up your child on a city street. This particularly includes
Garfield Street by the school gyms. Please do not park your car on Garfield
Street for any reason. DO NOT DROP OF CAMPERS BY THE GYMNASIUM (as this is
not the morning meeting area)

- Parents will enter campus via Pilgrim Road off of Massachusetts Avenue.
- Parents will follow the interior road on the Cathedral Grounds (directed
by Headfirst Staff members) down to the athletic fields.
- Parents will be greeted by Headfirst Staff members (not parents) will
then help their child exit the car and be checked-in during morning drop-off
and will help the children return to their cars during afternoon pick-up
[Please do not allow your child to exit the car until a Headfirst Staff member
opens the door]
- Please have your children ready to exit the car with their lunch and
equipment in hand.
- After drop-off and pick-up parents will proceed to the end of the road
where they will be able to exit the Cathedral Grounds onto Garfield Street.
- Please do not use or be on your cell phone during this process as it
is very unsafe for the carpool procedure.
**In the interest of camper safety and a quick carpool process, please never
park your car or exit your car while in the carpool lane. If you feel that
you absolutely must park and walk your child up to check-in, please do so in
designated parking spots only. The Cathedral Police are extremely strict with
their parking enforcement and failing to park in designated areas or holding
up the carpool line will likely result in a citation and fine. Thanks in advance
for your cooperation and close attention to their carpool instructions. This
will help ensure that we have a safe and fun week at Headfirst Summer Camp!

Exit I-495 at exit 54, Braddock Road West. Follow Braddock Road for approximately six miles. Pass the first entrance to the university and turn right at the next light at Roanoke River Road. From the Vienna Metro Station: Take the CUE Bus (any of the routes stop at George Mason). The CUE Bus is free with a valid Mason identification card, or is $.50 otherwise. If traveling by car, exit the Vienna Metro on Nutley Avenue South (Route 243). Follow Nutley Avenue to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) and turn right. Stay on Route 50 to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) and turn left. Follow Route 123 through the City of Fairfax to University Drive, then turn left. Take the first right at Occoquan River Lane. - Parents will enter campus via Greentree Road. There is absolutely no parking in the neighborhood. School and neighborhood rules state that All Guest Parking must take place in the Woods Academy School parking lots on the ground of the Woods Academy School.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There is a No left hand turn sign in front of the school entrance on Greentree Road. Therefore, you cannot turn left from Greentree Road to access the school driveway. From Bradley Blvd. we strongly recommend you access Fernwood Road. From Fernwood Road, please take a Left onto Greentree and then a Right into the Woods Academy School entrance. Please avoid taking Burdette Road to Greentree Road, as you will not be able to take the left hand turn into the school entrance by taking this route.
- Parents will follow the instruction of Headfirst Staff members to the back
of the school building where they will be circled-around and then sent back
to the front of the school where the drop-off & pick-up area is located.
- Parents will be greeted by Headfirst Staff members (not parents) will then
help their child exit the car and be checked-in during morning drop-off and
will help the children return to their cars during afternoon pick-up [Please
do not allow your child to exit the car until a Headfirst Staff member opens

From The Capital Beltway: Exit at Old Georgetown Road. Turn south of Old Georgetown Road to the light at at Greentree Road. Turn right on Greentree Road. Follow Greetree Road through the stop sign at Fernwood Road. The Woods Academy is located past the intersection of Greentree and Fernwood on the right hand side.
From NW Washington DC: Take River Rd. North towards the Beltway. Take a right on Burdette Road. Burdette dead ends into the Woods Academy.
From Chevy Chase and Bethesda, MD: Take Bradley Blvd. North towards the Beltway. Take a right on Burdette Rd. Burdette dead ends into the Woods Academy.
From Potomac, MD:Take River Rd South towards Washington, DC. Take a left on Burdette Rd. Burdette dead ends into the Woods Academy.
From I-270 South:Follow I-270 South to the split. At the split, bear right toward Northern Virginia. Stay in the extreme right lane, and take the first exit after the split, Exit 1 (Democracy Blvd). Go to the light at the end of teh exit and make a left onto Democracy Blvd. Turn right at the spotlight at the intersection of Democracy and Fernwood Rd. Follow Fernwood through one set of lights. Turn right on Greentree Road at the sign for the Woods Academy. The Woods Academy is located past the intersection of Greentree and Fernwood on the right hand side.
