Campers will experience and enjoy a self-contained classroom while our professional and experienced staff fosters growth and development in a safe, nurturing and fun environment. Activities are child-centered, and emphasize social development. The goal, in each activity, is to build self-esteem by encouraging children to feel capable and confident in their abilities. Campers participate in teacher-led classes such as Athletics, Art, Drama, Cultures, and more.

Campers will explore the world around them with themes ranging from Dinosaurs to Outer Space, from Creatures of the Sea to Interesting Insects. Daily routines will complement the themes of the week and include: storytelling, art & craft projects, music & creative movement, imaginative games and outdoor water play. Experienced and professional adult staff will lead all programs.

Also, a special addition to this summer at Junior Day Camp is the Headfirst Adventure Climbing Wall. One day during the week, your camper will receive stepping stones of information for future rock climbing on nature's walls. Campers will boost self-esteem and challenge fears of height and push themselves to their comfort limits. Through this program, we will build team spirit by praising and encouraging fellow climbers as they reach for the top of the rocks. Instruction also includes information on safety and harnesses.

To provide the best experience for each child, Junior Campers must be toilet trained before the start of camp. Please pack a snack to camp each day. (Ratio: 5:1)

Throughout the week, campers will enjoy and play all sorts of indoor and outdoor games and sample a variety of sports and activities such as swimming, kickball, volleyball, wiffleball, capture the flag, floor hockey, and scooter hockey. We also introduce games that challenge the memory and mind as well as reflexes, including games that are easy to learn but challenging to master.

Each week ends with the fun-filled Headfirst Olympics and Headfirst Gomer Dome Moon Bounce day. By the end of the week, campers will have a variety of fun-filled stories and games to share with their friends and family.

Please note that campers in this program will undergo a basic swimming test by the St. Albans School before entering the pool each week. The test is for safety purposes only and helps the lifeguards (and other pool staff) to identify children who may need assistance while in the pool. Campers swim Monday thru Friday and do so in the early afternoon.

Did you ever wonder how that Magic trick was done? Well, here is your chance to learn at the Headfirst Magical Mystery Camp. Campers will learn some of the greatest “tricks of the trade” throughout the camp week.

Each session, campers will gain knowledge of how and why magic works and learn the basic techniques of sleight-of-hand as well as the many theories behind magic. This program focuses primarily on the Performance Art of Magic. Students train in a variety of forms of magic, sleight of hand, “mentalism,” apparatus, coin, card, wand and handkerchief magic, all while learning the basics of what it means to be a magician. A variety of magical games, craft projects and activities accompany serious magic instruction.

Magic Camp is a fantastic forum to prove to all campers that hard work and practice will pay off as they learn to improve their skills and confidence throughout the week.  Parents, please note that a performance follows at the end of the week, where students perform an effect they have mastered in a close-up setting for attending parents and friends.

All supplies are included in the cost.

Sports Camps

At Headfirst Baseball Camp, fun and camper safety are the top priorities, with emphasis on team play and individual skill development. We will focus on throwing and catching techniques and drills, specialty position practice (pitching, catching, infield, and outfield), baserunning, live hitting, hitting drills, and play at least two live and/or skill games per day.

Full day campers are guaranteed an abundant amount of work on their hitting swings and mechanics with participation in daily batting practice sessions and the Headfirst Baseball Homerun/Line Drive Hitting Contests. Tee work, soft toss and live pitching (kid and coach pitch depending upon age group) are used throughout the week. Kid pitch is for the 11-14 year old age group only. The Headfirst staff encourages players to play multiple positions throughout the week.

Our Sports Camps are designed for athletes of all ages and abilities. Groups are separated by age, grade level and ability. Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced/Select athletes are encouraged to join us at camp.

Having fun through a positive teaching and learning environment, Headfirst Basketball Camp will emphasize individual skills, basic fundamentals and team play in a positive coaching environment. Fundamentals will include shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding and defensive techniques as well as special insight into the lost art of modern basketball: the backdoor pass! Skills will be taught and practiced everyday with a specific focus on one main fundamental each day (i.e., shooting).

Campers will be divided into smaller groups for stations to provide an intimate learning environment and specific, individual teaching. Organized team play and skills competition will allow campers to practice fundamentals in a fun and competitive environment. Fundamentals, stations, skills competitions and games will be taught, coached and refereed by an extremely qualified staff of Headfirst coaches. Campers will be exposed to a wide variety of skills and fundamentals in a fun and positive environment to learn basketball the right way: the Headfirst way!

Players of all skill levels are encouraged to attend, and players are encouraged to try different positions at summer camp. There will be plenty of positional drills that will simulate games. Players will be taught how to react quickly to various game-like situations, and then shown how to make the most intelligent play in those situations. There will be at least two scrimmages and games for full day campers with drill work and practice filling the gaps between games. If you are looking to improve your skills over the summer, then this is the perfect camp for you!

We are very excited to announce that we will back at Episcopal High School this summer for our Overnight Lacrosse Camp. The campus has great facilities and is located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Since I am a DC native, I am very proud of the growth of lacrosse in the DC area. Some of the best players, coaches, high school programs, and youth organizations call DC home. The camp is designed for players of all skill levels, and each camper will get personalized attention from our experienced coaching staff. The environment will be competitive, but it will be structured so that players of all abilities can thrive and improve. There will be an overnight option as well as day camp option. Camper safety and fun are the top priorities.

The Headfirst teaching philosophy begins with the idea that the best way to improve your skills is to learn directly from more experienced players. As a young player, you should always be thinking about how to reach the next level. The staff consists of college All-Americans, professional players, and some of the best teachers of the game. We will teach you techniques and skills that will help you sharpen your game instincts. Players will learn how to react quickly to situations and how to make the smartest play. Drills and positional practice will enable the camper to develop the fundamental skills needed to play with confidence. There will be plenty of scrimmaging, and each camper will have a chance to experiment with new moves during games. Scrimmages and games will be coached and officiated by our coaching staff. Smart lacrosse players take advantage of the summertime by attending camps to enhance their skills and improve their overall game. And best of all, lacrosse camps are fun! --Jesse Hubbard
